Alex Villar’s Temporary Occupations poses meditations on how the infrastructure and architecture of a space enforce movement and determine spatial codes. Deliberate Negligance adapts Villar’s concept to the NYUAD campus, focusing on the fall barriers found throughout the campus. Positioning ourselves in the vulnerabilities in this safety system, we interrogate such reactive spatial interventions, asking questions of purpose, effectiveness, and agency.

In the spring of 2022, the “Culture, Rights, and Representation in and for the 21st Century” research kitchen at NYUAD featured Deliberate Negligence as the opening piece to their “Campus Rights (Rites)” exhibition.
